Rhonda’s Story

Site created on May 4, 2019

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. The purpose of this page is to keep family and friends updated in one place following Rhonda's diagnosis with an extremely rare cancer known as mesothelioma. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

"Mesothelioma is cancer of the mesothelium, the tissue that lines and protects vital organs such as the heart, lungs and stomach, as well as the inner body wall." (Please see the link under the 'Ways to Help' tab). Rhonda's initial tests note she has thickening of these cells around her left lung. She has not been staged, but her team believes she is not yet an advanced case.

Rhonda is a wife of 32 years to her husband Walter and a mother of three girls: Julia, Kayla, & Sofia. She is a daughter, sister, friend, and expert radiation oncology Nurse. Rhonda started caring for others in her teenage years as a volunteer at her local hospital, graduated from Fitchburg State University with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and has worked in a variety of inpatient nursing roles. For the past eleven years, she has cared for patients at Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women's Cancer Center in Radiation Oncology.

Rhonda will be undergoing a complex thoracic surgery known as a pleurectomy with decortication on May 23rd. She will also undergo chemotherapy facilitated by an incredible team of doctors and nurses at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.

On July 14, 2020, Rhonda Ann Manczurowsky passed away peacefully at the age of 54 surrounded by her loving family after a 15 month battle.

Thank you everyone for supporting us through this journey.
