Rex’s Story

Site created on July 30, 2018

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Rex was diagnosed with colon cancer about 3 years ago. Since then he has been undergoing multiple rounds of chemotherapy. The cancer spread to his liver and has recently spread to his abdomen. In June, Rex entered Hospice and is currently under their care. His health is declining rapidly and he is unable to eat much. He is sleeping a good part of each day and while he is still with us cognitively, he has little energy.
Rex lives in a senior community in Winter Haven, FL and is fortunate to have some awesome neighbors and friends who help with various needs as well as with visits and prayers. Rex's brothers, John and Bill, are tag teaming to be with him as he progresses along his path to the end of life in this world.
In addition to his neighbors, Rex has been visited by old friends he has made throughout his life and he seems to enjoy those visits a great deal. If anyone is interested in visiting Rex please call or text John (630-651-5066) or Bill (919-413-6407) to schedule a visit. All contacts are appreciated.

Journal entry by John Rhoades

Rex passed away this afternoon while the nurses were with him. He put up a strong fight against his cancer and is finally going home in peace.
Thank you to all of his good friends who have been so supportive.
Rex has asked to cremated and we plan to honor that request. We will plan a celebration of his life in a month or so - also at his request - so there won’t be a funeral service. More on the celebration of life later.
We appreciate all of the prayers and supportive comments.
