Remi’s Story

Site created on September 29, 2022

On Monday, September 26th, Remi drowned in a tragic accident. First responders were able to resuscitate her, and she was subsequently airlifted to VCU PICU. Due to the duration of time that Remi's brain was without oxygen, we find ourselves in the greatest battle of our lives. We are currently in a holding pattern as the swelling in Remi's brain subsides. At that point, Remi's care team will be able to administer further tests, scans and imagery for a greater scope of information.

Our friends and families are by our sides and have rallied around us. Remi is surrounded by love, prayer and hope. Courtney and Kyle are inundated with messages from y'all looking for ways to help. That is where this site came into play. They will undoubtedly face a tremendous financial impact at some point in time. While finance is secondary to the task at hand, they will allow help from those that would like to support.

Our family will be utilizing Caring Bridge for updates and to allow you all to monitor and post your own prayers and experiences. Aside from those updates, PLEASE RESPECT OUR PRIVACY in this most difficult of times. Thank you all for your love and prayers. Remi needs them all.

Todays Update:

There were lots of tiny victories today, but we want to take a moment today to clarify some things:

Remi’s condition is still very critical. Survival is still somewhere in the 50% range and what survival looks like is still anyones guess. We are sharing all of the positivity because it’s important that we do. We are genuinely encouraged by Remi’s fight and the power of y’all’s prayer. That said, we also have gotten some outreach where folks may be misunderstanding her condition. Every single positive movement is a sign of improvement in brain function and a step in the right direction. However, the battle has just begun and we are in for a very long process. Please. Do not relent on your prayer and fight. Continue to lift Remi up with your collective strength. Thank you. We love and appreciate you all.
