Newest Update

Journal entry by Jon Haug

Hello everyone, it's been a long time since we have done any updates, and we are nearing the end of using Caring Bridge.

A few really great updates to share.  First off, Reina had another set of MRI's a few weeks ago, and for the first time ever there was no evidence of the tumor left!  All of her tumor markers in the blood and urine are normal too.  We got the awesome NED designation, meaning No Evidence of Disease!  This video shows us doing the bell ringing at Roger Maris cancer center.

There is always a chance that the cancer can come back, so we still will be doing MRI's every few months but everything so far looks promising!

As far as her eye goes, we just saw the ophthalmologist for that and while we still need to use the patch on her eye  for a while, the doctors see improvement and think she will have 20/20 vision with glasses!

We have no new news on her kidneys, we see the kidney Dr. next year.

Previously I mentioned Caring Bridge doing a separate page in their Resources section on How We Heal.  You can read that here:

They also have her picture and a quote from me in bullet point 12 on how to cope:

It's some pretty great stuff, and sometime after the first of the year they will also have a video presentation filmed by David McLain, a National Geographic photographer/filmmaker.  I will post when that is available online as well.  That will most likely be our last post on Caring Bridge.

Mariko and I want to thank everyone who has followed Reina's journey and been there to give us words of encouragement and more.  We hope everyone has a safe and Merry Christmas!
