Newest Update

Journal entry by Reid Lehman

 Good Evening Everyone,

Yesterday, I spent the day at the Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville getting MRI’s, A CT scan and blood tests.   Toward the end of the day, Barbara and I met with Dr. Stauffer (my Mayo surgeon) and, separately, Dr. Starr (my Mayo oncologist).

Both doctors confirmed that I am cancer free.  We are praising God for that report!  Dr. Starr reminded us that this is not the case for most individuals with pancreatic cancer and that I’m in the “1%”.   While my genetic condition (Lynch syndrome) made me susceptible to treatment by immunotherapy, I know it’s still God’s hand that has healed and brought me through.

Following surgery in February, I lost 20 pounds, falling to 160.  After the doctor said I could have a Covid immunization, I received one in March, but caught Covid a couple days later, so it seemed to delay healing for 3-4 weeks.  However, I’ve been steadily gaining strength & weight since then.  I’m back to 173#, and I’m fine if I stay there or even gain a few more.   For several weeks, I’ve been playing tennis regularly, working in my yard and my shop and keeping a full schedule once again.  I feel good, physically, mentally and spiritually, and the report from the doctors yesterday was the icing on the cake.

There was concern that my February surgery might result in diabetes.   While at risk, I remain under the line.  My stomach is digesting food.  I can eat most of what I want, and my blood sugar remains within reasonable limits.

Our financial needs have been met throughout the year.  We’ve been able to pay every bill and have extra.

I’ll try to remember to update again upon my return to the Mayo Clinic for regular testing again in November or December.   Thank you all again for your generous concern, encouragement, prayers and  support.

Love, Reid and Barbara.
