Newest Update

Journal entry by Renee Reed

Kelsey captured a lot of what has been going on in the 'Live with Transplant' saga for Dale, but I thought I would add a couple things today as well.

Dale is always going to error on keeping a low-profile regarding his challenges, but he wants everyone to know that he appreciates the kind words and prayers 🙏 . On each trip we take to the Mayo, we are humbled with the fact that many are on health journeys that are challenging. It helps us to keep things in perspective and to appreciate the good health we do have.

Medication challenges are what have been the focus for Dale the last few months. Some of his anti-rejection medications have target therapeutic ranges that he needs to maintain. When things get out of that range, a long list of, not so fun, side-effects can kick in.😕  The anti-rejection drugs don't always mix well with the drugs needed to treat blood clots or fungal infections. When there are competing interests between keeping the kidney from rejecting, ridding the body of fungal infection, and/or clearing up and preventing blood clots - the fun begins, and it's why we appreciate the team we have at the Mayo.

Good news:
  • Multiple areas of fungal infection have been removed from Dale's left leg and left arm
  • Medication has been started for the expanding thrombophlebitis in the right leg - requiring DVT treatment protocol. Dale is hoping that he will soon be able to walk again without pain!
  • Tac level (one of the anti-rejection meds) is FINALLY getting stabilized after a long couple months of not playing nice in his system
  • Dale has rest orders and lifting restrictions for the next couple weeks so feel free to post your top Netflix, Hula and/or Amazon series as he will soon be driving me crazy....haha!
Lots of labs, clinic visits and return visits to the Mayo over the next couple of months.

We are thankful for the blessings and love from friends and family!! To all, have a blessed day.
