Journal entry by Mary K Sansone —
It's been over 6 months since the bone marrow transplant. Today, I actually received the first of two Moderna COVID-19 vaccines.
My JAM
Among many things, I am a recovering alcoholic and a cancer patient with a bone marrow transplant that was used to arrest a recurrence of acute myeloid leukemia. I am also a sufferer from anxiety and depression. I am journeying on a path that I hope will tidy this messy lot of labels.
I would like to think that the cancer and addiction are only a few transparently thin layers of my onion - the ones that are removed before consumption. However, all my mental and physical traits and experiences actually make a garden; I am now trying to grow nourishing and colorful plants while pulling the invasive weeds. (I do notice that the milkweed for monarchs and the yellow topped dandelions are quite wonderful in their own ways. )
I hope you will indulge me to start in the next chapter with what it was like, what happened, and what it is like now as a suffering and now recovering alcoholic.
(During cancer treatment and COVID19, I am learning to watercolor; I suck.)

Julie and Amy and I are playing croquet. This was never a regular hobby; I do not know why I chose this activity - or these fashions.
(JAM comes from Julie Amy Mary - The three girls in our family among five children with two brother siblings - Chris and Dan. )
