Journal entry by Miza Andrews

It is with a broken heart that I write to tell you that Mom lost her battle last night around 8:30 pm. She was doing good and opened her eyes and squeezed my hand. They were getting her ready to take her off the Vent and she just stopped breathing. She survived the cancer but the infection was just too much for her.
Mom loved life and everyone around her loved her. Weather you were family, friend or a stranger she made you love her. She never knew a stranger. We will miss her something awful. Plans have not been made, but will be soon. I will let you all know.
Thank you all for your support.
Love,
Miza

HI everyone. I have not written in a few days. Mom has been in the ICU at Ochsner since Friday. to make a long story somewhat short, She has a 2 bacterial infections and her lungs were full of fluid. She has been heavily sedated for the last 3 days. We came to the hospital on Friday to have her stomach drained and it just went from there. Thanks to my niece Ashley who was staying with her on Friday night, things got handled pretty quickly. She is on a vent and is slowly breathing on her own. I am hoping they take her off of it in the next day or so. It has truly been a very stressful time. The Dr is on top of it and feels that they can get her back to normal in time. She has a long way to go. I'm sorry I didn't post sooner, but we just didn't know what was going to happen. Please keep her in your prayers. I will post more in a day or two.

And we are home. Thank you all for the support this last week. Mom ended up having a balloon put into the vein and it opened it up.  So far so good. If it should happen again, they will do a stint. Now all I have to do is get her stronger so she can go to her house and be with her little dog. She miss her something awful. Now that the stomach is healed, she can handle Deliha jumping on her. Thank you once again for all the prayers and words of support. We couldn't do it with out you all.

Well it has been a long week. Mom is still in the hospital. To make a long story short, she will be having a stint put in on Monday. One of the vein's has not fully opened since her surgery on 2/6. This is causing fluid to build up in her stomach. They have drained her twice and feel that this is the best way to solve the problem. If this does not work, then more surgery. Please keep the prayers going. She is ready to be home and in her own bed.

Well it has been a long two days. Mom was admitted into the hospital on Monday. She had a CAT scan and they discovered that she has fluid in her abdomen. This morning they drained 1.6 liters of fluid out of her. She was feeling good and the then she started having pain again after lunch. To back track, she has been having pains in her side and stomach for a few days. The dr thinks her liver is not draining fast enough for it to drain out what ever way it should drain. So we are back at Ochsner for another few days. He is waiting on more test results. Please keep her in our prayers. I will post more when I know more.

The feeding tube is out! hip hip hurray!!!!! Mom saw dr brown today and he is happy with how she is doing. She has gained 4 lbs. Still having some pain, but he says until things completely settle down that this is normal. Our next goal is getting back to her house and her own bed. And of course to her little dog. We see the cancer dr on Monday and she will decide when to start the preventive chemo. I have no idea on what kind or how long she will be on this. I will let you all know soon.

It has been 1 month since mom's surgery. So far she is doing fantastic. Some days are better then others, but overall good. We saw her cancer dr yesterday. As of today she is cancer free! Woo Hoooo!
Once she is healed, she will have to do some chemo as a preventive measure. As I stated after surgery, 2 lymph glands were removed because they were positive for cancer. So it was not a surprise to hear she will have more chemo. The dr stated that it would not be as strong as the last and it would be given a little different. I don't think it will start for another month or so. She has to heal.
It has been slow going but she is stronger every day. Foods are being reintroduced to her. Her appetite is great. I need to fatten her up. And if you know me, I love to feed people. lol. But for now it is soup, baked potatoes and grilled chicken and veggies. Thank you all for your concern, cards, phone calls and support. It will be a long recovery but she's got this. Keep those prayers coming.

Mom went to the dr this morning. It was a great ck up.
Her cancer markers were negative. The margins around the tumor are clear. The tested 15 lymph glands and 2 were positive but they removed them and the rest were clear. She can have regular food again but will keep the feeding tube for another week at least. We go back next week.
Thank  you again for all of your prayers. I believe they are truly working.

Mom is finally home. It was another 6 days in the hospital, but all is good. On the 15th we had to bring mom back to the hospital after being home for less than 24 hours. Turns out she had an ulcer where the stomach and the small intestine were reconnected. They were able to take care of that the same day we brought her in. In the mean time her stomach had not "woken up" from surgery yet. But after a day or two it is in working order. Other than some normal other issues she is good. Her spirit is good and she is hungry. Only clear liquids for now. Tube feeding will continue for another 2 weeks. Thank you all so much for your kind words. I have read them all to mom. She is very touched to be loved by so many. Please keep the prayers coming. They are amazing in how they work.

As of today mom has seen 5 different dr's. She has stage 2-b pancreatic cancer. It has not spread to any of her other organs. We have one more dr to see on Tuesday July 17th, a surgeon, to see if they can operate. So far chemo and radiation seems to be the route we will take. On tomorrow morning (Friday) they will be putting a stint in to help the pancreas drain. In a matter of 3 days mom has turned very yellow, the tumor is blocking the duct where the pancreas should drain.
Needless to say it has been a very long 7 days since her diagnosis. I want to thank you all for your prayers and offers of help. I will certainly take you up on it. Mom has some decisions to make as to what she wants to do. So please keep the prayers coming and the positive thoughts. She is in fairly good spirits considering it all. She sends her love to everyone.

Raynell’s Story

Site created on July 6, 2018

As many of you may or may not know, mom was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on July 5,2018. I have created this site to keep you all informed on what is happening with treatments, etc.  Please be patience with me as we digest this new way of life for her. I promise to update as often as I can. I know many of you know of our past with cancer with my brother and dad. To have mom go through this is very unfair to her and all of us who love her so. We will start with Dr's on Tuesday the 10th. I should have more information by the end of the week.
My mom has prayed for so many in need of prayers in the past. If you can send her some prayers and love I know she will appreciate it. I'll write more as soon as I know more.
