Happy New Year! I hope that everyone's new year is off to a good start!

Last week, dad had his last doctor visit and infusion. It was a very bittersweet week. It was very difficult to say goodbye to all of the people that we have been spending the majority of our time with for the past seven months. We are forever grateful for all of the wonderful staff at both the Piedmont Cancer Institute and the Piedmont Infusion Center. The infusions were no longer helping so we decided to stop and infusions/doctor care and start hospice care.

Yesterday, hospice care began. The administrative nurse and dad's nurse came and did their initial evaluations. They were both very nice and helpful. Dad's mouth and throat hurt very badly due to all of the sores. He also has been battling fevers on and off. Other then that, they said he was doing well. His heart and lungs sound good. They got him more medicine for his mouth, which seems to be helping so far.

This morning, dad's oxygen got delivered. This will help with his shortness of breath on an as-needed base. Then, the hospice social worker came by to talk with us and answer questions. Finally, the nurse came by for another check-up. We are all a little tired from all of the visitors this morning.

We are continuing to take everything day-by-day. At times it can all be very overwhelming. We are still in awe of all of the love and support we receive on a daily bases from family and friends. We continue to thank you and appreciate all you do!
