Ray’s Story

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

On Wednesday, February 23, Dad slipped on some ice, fell, and hit his head.  True to his character, after falling, he helped someone scrape the ice off their car windows.  He went home and except for a headache, he felt fine.  On Thursday, the headache stopped and Dad had a great afternoon talking to his children and grandchildren and spent the evening watching his favorite television shows with our Mom.  They went to bed around midnight.

At 3 AM, Dad awakened Mom complaining about a throbbing headache and asked to be taken to the emergency room.  He got himself dressed and then collapsed and lost consciousness.  By 7 AM on Friday morning Dad was in surgery.  His brain had experienced a large subdural hematoma.  The bleeding within his skull pushed one side of his brain into the other a distance of 2.3 centimeters.  A movement of 1.5 centimeters is almost always fatal.  By God's grace, Dad survived but has not regained consciousness.

Dad loves Jesus.  His life at 73 is very busy as he drives a bus 4 days a week taking residents of an assisted living facility to the grocery store and doctors' appointments, he is an active deacon at his church, he serves on the security team for his church, calls on visitors to his church, travels around the country with Mom, and still manages to watch "Gunsmoke" every night.  Although he is not a Veteran, he is a huge supporter of Veterans and his Country.  He is a man who believes in the power of God through prayer, and we as a family, believe in our Mighty and Good Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

We are so thankful for the outpouring of prayers and support from family and friends.  We do not believe God is finished with Raymond Campbell.  Please join us in praying that God would heal him, however long it takes, and continue to use him to Glorify and Honor God's Name.  Also, please pray for my Mom.  Through the pain, she has been strong and clear headed and an example to us.  We love you all.  Thank you.

Journal entry by Aaron Campbell

Good morning Everyone!

We just wanted to let you know that Dad came home this week.  Praise God!  Thank you, that after two years, you continue to pray for him and my Mom.

He is still recovering from the C-Diff symptoms, so Mom has to work constantly to keep his wound clean.  Even after all Dad has endured, the wound still drives his care.  Until it is healed, we cannot get him up regularly enough for his body to fight infections effectively.

If you have any time, give my Mom a call and go see them.  It would be nice for someone to talk to Dad that is not a doctor or family member.  I'm sure he longs to hear about all the things he used to talk about, mainly politics and religion 😃.  I know he would also love to hear how everyone is doing.

Please continue to pray that his wound would heal, he would have good therapists, and that infection would keep far from him.  Please also pray that my Mom would have lots of good help.

Patients and caregivers love hearing from you; add a comment to show your support.
