Randy’s Story

Site created on July 27, 2018

On Monday morning (July 23rd) Randy was complaining of headaches and neck pain. He was also very confused. His co-worker, Donna Porter, insisted that he be seen by a doctor. So Colleen took him into the walk in clinic, and then to Essentia Hospital. After doing some tests, it was determined that he had a blood clot on his brain and would need surgery. Randy's health was declining throughout the day Monday, and he was taken to surgery at around 8:20 pm. While in surgery, it was discovered that Randy also had an infection in his brain (cerebral abscess). The infection and inflammation on the left side of his brain has caused temporary paralysis of the right side of his body, although he does have sensation on the right side. It also has affected his speech.

As of now, Randy is in the ICU at Essentia Hospital in Fargo, room #434. Everyone is welcome to visit, except for between 2-4 p.m. which is "Quiet Time" in the ICU. Also, please keep your visit to around 5-10 minutes. He is not allowed to have flowers in the room, so please hold off on that for now. He is still receiving treatment for the infection, so please do not visit if you are sick. Thanks.

We will do our best to add updates to this site as they happen. He has slowly improved every day, and we are hoping it continues that way. Thank you to everyone that has reached out and offered their thoughts and prayers. It is very much appreciated.
