Randy’s Story

Site created on April 27, 2022

Welcome to our CaringBridge website for Randy. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place.

Our friend, volunteer trail groomer extraordinaire, long-time LLSMC Board Member and all-around great guy, Randy Arndt was recently sent, by a medivac, to Seattle. Randy is experiencing an adverse reaction to an antibiotic resulting in Stevens-Johnson Syndrome, a rare and severe condition. Randy is being treated at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he is in serious condition. Due to the urgency of Randy's situation, he could be hospitalized for an extended period. We all know Randy is a strong-willed salt-of-the-earth guy and a very proud man, but right now he could use some prayers and words of support.

His loving wife Esther is by his side and will remain there with him. Randy is in extreme pain, and both he and Esther need positive thoughts and prayers. Esther has requested that folks send cards for her to read to Randy to let him know we are all thinking about and want him home soon. Cards can be sent to: Randy and Esther Arndt C/O Carol Johnson, 210 E. Lakeland Way Allyn, WA 98524.

We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement written in the comments that Esther can read them to Randy.

Journal entry by David Renkoski

Randy has asked me to post the before and after pictures documenting his recovery.  The pictures are 60 days apart from when he went into the hospital with Stevens Johnson Syndrome and today.  WOW!

Randy is recovering slowly as all the doctors have said he would.  The Stevens Johnson Syndrome is still active in his eye lids and mouth.  His vision is a problem but a full recovery is expected. He is working hard to build up his strength after losing 30 lbs.  The feeding tube came out on June 10th so he is eating real food!   He continues in many outpatient services from Physical Therapy, medical visits, eye exams and many more.  He just has to be patient with the recovery and working hard!

Thanks for all of your support during this difficult time in he and Esther's life!
