Randi’s Story

Site created on March 18, 2020

As many know, our mother Randi was recently diagnosed with lung cancer. It was found incidentally after her fighting spirit led her down a lengthy path of testing for a completely unrelated issue. That fighting spirit will undoubtedly carry her through surgery and back into normal life.

She is very fortunate in that the cancer is small, slow growing, well isolated, and relatively easy to remove. Surgery is currently scheduled for Monday March 23rd, and should be curative. This means that chemotherapy and radiation are not expected at this time.

Unfortunately due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, our mom will not be able to have any visitors the day of surgery or for the duration of her hospital stay. Additionally her care team has asked that she limit social interaction as much as possible leading into and coming out of the surgery/hospital stay.

This is hard for us and I'm sure hard for many of you who would like to see her and help her through this time. We as a family are still working out the details of our care plan, and will use this platform to provide updates on that plan and if/how you all can help as we move forward.

Thank you all for the love and support,

Journal entry by Tyler Sanville

Hi Everyone,

Another big day. Chest tube is out and mom has been up doing laps around the floor every few hours. After her afternoon walk she was told that the margins and lymph nodes were all cancer free - this means that once she's healed the only additional care she will need is surveillance. This is great news and means that we're on the home stretch.

Thank you all again for the love and support, stay healthy.
