Newest Update

Journal entry by Dayna Moore

The hardest update I’ve had to write comes today.

Our Mom passed away peacefully yesterday, April 20. Since she was in palliative care, they were letting one person in to see her at a time. You all know how big our family is: 60+ Just on my Mom’s side, and just as many on my Dad’s. The amount of friends who wanted to have the chance to say goodbye is countless as well. It was impossible to get everyone in to say goodbye, but anyone who knows my Mom, knows how much she loves each of you.

Dad was able to be with her all day yesterday and was there until the end. The nurses in palliative care treated her with the most compassion and helped her be comfortable during her time there.

Yesterday evening and today were tough as we chose clothes,
just the right words for her obituary, and met with the funeral home. Just like everything we do in our family, we did it together.

We are extremely frustrated, yet understand, that the guidelines surrounding the virus won’t let us have the services we would want to have and let everyone have the chance to say goodbye and pay respects to our family. We would love to have a memorial once things are all over.

Dad, Tracy, Brian, and I are overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support we are getting from everyone. I can’t make it through many messages right now as it is too hard, but one after the other describes Mom as one who ALWAYS made them feel like part of the family, she was always a Mom to everyone, and memories of her. Keep those coming. When we have the strength, we can read them all!

I kept asking for and holding out for a miracle.  It didn’t hit me until today that maybe we already HAD our miracle.  We are lucky that she made it through last summer and had that much more time with her.

Thank you for all of the love and support through all of this since the beginning. Honestly, updating everyone has been a kind of therapy for me.

Mom’s obituary should be printed in Thursday’s paper as well as Fern Creek Funeral Home’s website.

Once we’re able to have a memorial, we will get that information out. Mom would have wanted a big party anyway.
