As many of you know, I have been fighting a protracted battle vs congestive heart failure....and losing almost every step along the way. Recently, when my Dobutamine catheter came out accidentally, and stayed out for several days, well, that series of events just sped up the process a bit to get to where we are now.
Tomorrow, Saturday the 10th of October, I will avail myself of Medical Aid In Dying, as is my right in Oregon. I will have family and friends by my side, and before I die, there will be music and food and stories and laughter, a right old hootenanny! Some folks will be "bussed in" via Zoom or Google Meetup--sorry, though, No Food For You!
I hope you will join my celebration of life in the nature in which it is intended. And maybe bring a casserole.

[Fun Family Sidebar: On one side of my family, through my father's mother, they hail from a tiny Island at the tip of the Irish Beara Peninsula: Dursey Island. Plus my father's always said his grandfather was an illegal border jumper...twice. As a member of His Majesty's Royal Navy, he jumped ship in Canada, and then a year or so later, he crossed the border into the US. Illegally. Again. On the other side of my family, my mother's father was from Baden Baden, in the Black Forest of Germany.]
