Journal entry by Natalie Vanlaningham —
Dad went to be with Jesus last night.
Mom was with him, and he went peacefully. She was able to sit with him, singing and praying. Mom was reflecting on one of Dad's favorite songs, linked below, and offered Dad back to the Lord. Dad took one last deep breath and was gone.
Last February, less than 24 hours after learning about the tumor, we sat in the hospital lobby, waiting for Dad's consultation with his surgeon. Dad told us he had complete peace and was totally ok no matter the outcome. At the time, when we weren't even ready to hear that the growth was cancer, hearing Dad speak in such an accepting way was almost appalling. It wasn't a surprise, though. We have been so blessed and encouraged by the steady faith he's demonstrated from beginning to end in this journey.
After almost a year of battling this cruel brain cancer, we are relieved knowing there is no pain, confusion, frustration, or unknown left for Dad. We ache deeply with our own loss, though, and the unending losses mom will face as she is left without her best friend, teammate, and love.
We have been deeply blessed by your prayers, gifts, and words of care these last 11 months. Thank you for coming alongside our family in this incredibly hard time. We appreciate your continued prayers.
