Piper’s Story

Site created on November 1, 2021

Piper (6) has been diagnosed with Severe Aplastic Anemia. A few weeks ago we took her to the Pediatrician for something unrelated and he noticed a lot of bruising  and wanted to run a CBC. The test came back with very low platelets and he sent us straight to the Emergency Room. Fast forward a week and she was admitted to the hospital after losing half of her already low platelets.  After a bone marrow biopsy we’ve discovered her marrow is in failure.

NOTE: WE LOVE THE SIMPLICITY OF THIS SITE IN ITS ABILITY TO QUICKLY UPDATE MANY PEOPLE ON PIPER’s STATUS. WE ARE FRUSTRATED BY THE INABILITY TO TURN OFF THE OVERT DONATION REQUESTS. IF YOU ARE A FAN OF THE CARING BRIDGE MISSION, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO DONATE. OTHERWISE, KNOW THAT WE ARE NOT DRIVING THOSE REQUESTS AND DO NOT BENEFIT FROM THEM.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Amy law

Update on Piper. She just had her port removed this morning. She did fantastic and is resting comfortably on the couch while the anesthesia wears off. It’s been a great month so far. Piper went back to school and is enjoying every minute of it. Her energy level is miles above what it was just 3 short months ago. After two years of not being able to play soccer she is back at it and excited to just be moving again. We are ecstatic that she gets to be a “normal” kid.
