Phyllis’s Story

Site created on January 25, 2020

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Phyllis was diagnosed with AL Amyloidosis via a kidney biopsy in November 2019 shortly before Thanksgiving. December was a whirlwind of doctors appointments that ultimately resulted in a consultation at Emory the day after Christmas where we confirmed she was a good candidate for an autologous (self donated) stem cell transplant. She is scheduled to be admitted for the high dose chemotherapy and stem cell transplant on March 24. She will be hospitalized for 2-3 weeks and will stay close to the hospital for 2 weeks following hospitalization before she can go home.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Phyllis Howell

So, I totally failed to update everyone! I know my daughters posted on FB and Instagram, but for the record, I'm in remission! My doc was very pleased with my numbers and told me to expect a long, normal life. I was beyond excited!

My bloodwork continues to improve, but I'm still below normal in several areas (red and white blood cells, hemoglobin, and platelets). However, my Lamba light chains are in the normal range, which is an important number that tells my doc I'm in remission.

Thank you for your prayers, cards, food, and happy thoughts! I am truly blessed beyond measure, and you are each a part of that blessing.
