                                                                                                                                               1/10/1952 - 1/10/2024

It is with deep sorrow and a humble acceptance of God's will that we announce the unexpected passing of Philip Arthur Halverson. Phil went to be with the Lord on his 72nd birthday from his home in Bothell, WA. Our beloved Phil was a faithful servant of God, a son, brother, father, and grandparent. He left behind a legacy of love, unwavering faith in Christ, and an enduring commitment to his family.

Born in Seattle to parents Archie & Dorine Halverson, Phil was raised in the Pacific Northwest with his five siblings. In his early years, Phil showed an exceptional talent for music as he learned to play the piano, accordion and dabbled with many other instruments. He had a passion for the outdoors that he developed during his time in Boy Scouts, where he forged lasting memories with his father. The natural wonders of the Pacific Northwest became a lifelong companion.

In 1970, Phil graduated from Ingraham High School, marking a milestone in his educational journey. His love for the Lord and music guided him to Michigan, where he pursued a major in music and a greater understanding of God’s word at the Grand Rapids School of the Bible and Music. It was there he fell in love, and married Ann Remus.

After graduating in 1974, Phil worked as Chaplain at the Saginaw County Jail. He served the Lord and the inmates by providing chapel services and inmate counseling. Meanwhile, the couple began building a family. Phil and Ann were blessed with three children (Heather, Kristin, and Philip) during their time in Michigan.

Following a job opportunity, he relocated the family to Lawton, Oklahoma, where he managed a bookstore for Zondervan Family Books. Managing the bookstore fueled a passion for reading and collecting books, a joy that followed him the rest of his life. Two more children (Alissa and Cheri) joined their bustling household in the time they spent in Oklahoma sheltering from the occasional tornado.

In 1985, drawn by a desire to be closer to his family and the natural beauties of western Washington, Phil brought his family back to his home state. He instilled in his children a profound love for the outdoors, sharing his joy for exploration, camping, hiking, and backpacking. His fascination with God's creation was evident in every adventure, as he wondered at the intricate details of the world around him. Many cherished memories were made with Phil in nature.

Throughout his professional journey in Washington, Phil’s career evolved from a skilled cabinet maker to a respected production manager of elaborate trade show exhibits. His dedication and hard work left a lasting impact on those he worked with, earning him the admiration of colleagues and peers. Phil retired in 2021 grateful for the relationships he had made in his travels around the country.

Phil’s newfound freedom allowed him to dive deeper into the lives of his loved ones and to pursue his passions. He went camping with his family, cared for his mother, delighted in his grandkids, dove into his books, and tended to his Rhododendrons.

Phil was a pillar of strength and support for those who knew him, offering his wisdom, guidance, and unconditional love. Phil’s gentle spirit will be missed beyond measure and his memory forever treasured. Phil is preceded in death by his father, Archie T. Halverson. Phil leaves behind his Mother Dorine Halverson, his siblings Mareda (Dan Cornelissen), Cindy (Tad Aldrich), Steve Halverson (Lori), Cheri (Dave Jackson), and Doug Halverson, his children; Heather (Curt Selby), Kristin (Jeff Mix), Phil R. Halverson (Aleah), Alissa (Paul McKenzie), and Cheri (Dave James), his cherished grandchildren Taylor, Hannah, Ethan (Brittany), Josh, Sam, Hayden, Bella, Cole, Alex, Ella, Kainen, Miles, Elsie, Rosie, Matilda, Priya, Anya, Charlie, Finley, Rex, and one great-grandchild, Faith.

He will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by many other friends and extended family members, all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love and glory of his Lord and Savior that he so faithfully served.
