Newest Update

Journal entry by Sharon Owens

Today seemed to start off well.  Perry ate breakfast and said he could taste what he was eating and it was good.  That hasn’t happened for a few weeks now.  But this afternoon Perry began having a difficult time keeping his oxygen levels up.  Even though he was hooked up to a machine providing extra oxygen, his levels kept dropping.  His fever went back up to 101 but has now dropped back to 99.  Breathing treatments were increased from twice a day to every four hours.  An increased dosage of steroids was added along with another antibiotic.  He will have a bronchoscope done tomorrow to clean his lungs.  They will also check to see if there is scar tissue in the lungs from the maintenance chemo drug, Gleevec, he is taking or if it is GVHD rather than pneumonia.  This morning they felt sure it was just pneumonia but they will test for certain tomorrow.   Up to this point all labwork, cultures, ct scans, ultrasounds and EKG’s have come back clear.  The Bronchoscope will help by allowing them to wash his lungs and suction out sludge and infection contributing to the pneumonia.  Please pray that tomorrow will be a better day, that the bronchoscope will be successful, and that Perry will be able to breathe more freely and gain enough strength to stand up alone and without assistance for more than a minute or two.  Please also pray for Harvey, whose headache is still hanging on with no relenting to the drugs started a week ago.  Those prayers will carry us through another day.
