Journal entry by Kelsey Petro

Today we had Penelope’s very first heart cath. Her dr said hopefully this will be the only one she has. We went in around 830, she ended up going back for surgery around 1130. We were given a pager and told when it goes off to her back to the cath lab and we’ll go over whatever needs to be gone over. We at lunch, hung out, went to the gift shop, and just waited. Waiting is always the worst. Finally around 230 our pager went off and we met up with Dr. Day to go over the findings. We found out her PDA,which normally completely closes after birth, hasn’t closed completely. One small vessel was left from that. We also got to see how her heart had two small holes called ASDs and one large hole called a VSD. Which we already knew. The best part is, there were 0 surprises. When we get back to Montana we will meet with her cardiologist to see when surgery will be. Pen also got the okay from this cardiologist to go part time on oxygen (only at night) we just have to see if our other one agrees! It’s been a good day. We are all super tired and ready to head back home !
