Payton’s Story

Site created on January 29, 2019

Payton is a vibrant 3 year old full of sass, love, and strength. She loves to cuddle, make goofy faces at her sister, paint pictures and play with her baby dolls. She was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia on January 28th after what we thought was a routine sick visit to her pediatrician.  She will fight, we will give her strength, and we appreciate everyone helping us on this incredibly difficult journey.

Woo hoo!!!!! Payton has finished treatment! She had her last dose of oral chemo yesterday and is DONE with leukemia treatment. Last week we spent a day at Luries and Payton had surgery to remove her port, have her last lumbar puncture and dose of chemo through her port. It was a long day but surgery went well and her incision is healing nicely. Apparently at school she was showing off her wound to her friends telling them how good it was healing. She was so proud of it, I have to admit it was pretty cute. We had another week of steroids (or as Addy calls it, the crabby medicine) and then on April 9th she took her last pills. Payton has grown up so much because she knew exactly what it means to be done. She said that her cancer was all gone! We go back for bloodwork and follow up on June 1st so see how her immunities are returning and make sure there is no reappearance of cancer cells but this will be every 8 weeks for the next 6 months but there will not be any treatment involved. Things will start to return to normal for her now, she can go to the dentist (appointment already scheduled) and she can take vitamins again. That might seem like a small thing but she wants to have the squishy vitamins just like her sister. We had a big lawn sign put up and her Make a Wish volunteer brought balloons and goodies to help celebrate. My awesome neighbor brought cookies, flowers, and a hand painted unicorn picture to help her celebrate. I have no idea who all actually reads this but if you are reading then THANK YOU! Your prayers and support of our family has helped beyond measure. We are eternally grateful and will always have you all in our hearts. It’s such a great day! No more countdown, Payton beat cancer!!!
