Hi everybody, We are thrilled to announce that ……

PAUL IS COMING HOME!!!

We are very excited and blessed to have the opportunity to finally take Paul home! His set date as of right now is this Thursday October 17th ( Funny how that number keeps popping up with us;)). We firmly believe this is where God wants Paul to be. Trying to find the next best place for Paul’s recovery has been a crucial part in this journey. Although we have taken Paul to a couple of rehabs, they never quite seemed to be the right fit for him. Paul is recovering for the long term, and the goal is to get him back to his full self again. Therefore, there is no better place for Paul to achieve this than in the comfort of our own home.
We believe Paul being at home in a comfortable, familiar environment, and being close to his family and friends will bring great progress in his healing.

It has been crazy getting ready for Paul’s homecoming. We are currently in the process of organizing Paul’s nursing and therapy team.

Of course none of this would be possible without God! It is amazing how He will supply abundantly for all of your needs when you put all of your cares upon Him.
“Submit to God and be at peace with Him; in this way prosperity will come to you.” ~ Job 22:21
We are witnesses to this promise from God. We submitted to God our idea to bring Paul home, and He has directed us and exceeded our expectations with the preparation of Paul’s homecoming.

“God always gives His best to those who leave the choice with Him.” Jim Elliot

We are so grateful to be able to be part of such a fulfilling & humbling experience of working with Paul everyday in the comfort of our home. To be witness of God’s miraculous intervention in Paul’s recovery is truly a gift from God.
May God continue to favor us with His power and protection.

We continue to credit God for everything during this time in our lives. We trust God that He has great plans for Paul. Plans to give him hope and a good future. ~ Jeremiah 29:11

“Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.” ~ Corrie ten Boom

Our family encourages all friends to visit Paul at our home. Since the beginning we have always felt that the presence of his friend’s love and support has and will continue to make a great impact on Paul’s recovery. For those who have continued to make the effort to visit Paul in DC over these past months has meant the world to our family and especially to Paul! Now that Paul is coming home we look forward to seeing everyone. If you want to touch base with us for our home address or any questions. Please feel free to reach out to me or Drew!

Hi everyone! Since I last posted Paul has been successful with breathing off the vent. Praise God! This is has been one of the biggest prayers since the beginning. We are so thankful for God and his faithfulness to His promises! Even though Paul has some bumps in the road he continues to overcome every obstacle! This just goes to show his strength and will power continues with him.  Paul has been improving with his alertness and movement as well. His nerves are starting to connect throughout his body allowing him to start doing more purposeful movements! We are currently researching Pauls next facility for more intense rehab. This transition should happen in the next week or two.

Throughout this journey our family has learned that it is important to take each day as it comes. Only God knows what each day will bring. Of course we want every day to be a perfect day for Paul, but in order to receive victory, we have to be prepared to go through some battles. Each obstacle we face we are face with two choices. The world expects us to react a certain way, but God wants us to react His way.

We choose to not put our emotions and our circumstances in place of God. Instead we surrender to Him and let our Lord guide us through each present day. God never allows a problem to permit if it would affect His destiny for us. No problem here on earth is too hard for God. He is above all natural laws and nothing is impossible with Him! Instead of looking at the problem, we continue to praise God and thank Him for His promises and love for us. Positivity can change your life! The tongue can speak words that bring life or death. Those who love to talk must be ready to accept what it brings.” {Proverbs 18:21}

If we were to listen to the Doctors facts about Pauls diagnosis He would not be where he is today!

My faith does not rest in the wisdom of men – but in the power of God.” {1 Corinthians 2:5}

Gods timing is absolutely perfect, and not a day goes by wasted with Him! God is never too early or too late. It requires a lot  of faith and patience, but We are continuing to trust His plan and timeline for Pauls complete healing! We know Gods plan for our family is well worth the wait!

Having Paul at Washington Hospital has led us to some amazing individuals. Many who work at Washington are incredibly inspired by Paul and his progression. They all say they feel the Holy Spirit in his room, and have amazing faith in his recovery! This is has been a reoccurrence since the beginning at Shock Trauma. Paul truly has an incredible spirit in him.

All good things take time” We must keep reminding ourselves that the deed is done! Jesus has already provided healing for us physically. It is just a matter of time for Gods Will to manifest through Paul! All of our prayers have been answered, so we must continue to have the confidence and assurance of the things that have not happened yet. God is good and every promise He has is Yes in Jesus Christ with saying Amen. We are standing firm in our victory. One coincidence” we truly believe is from God, is Pauls favorite number throughout his life has always been the number 17. Number 17 stands for Victory in the Bible, and Paul Robert Overton is 17 letters. Therefore Paul has Victory in his name and we are declaring victory for Pauls complete healing in Jesus name!

We serve an Almighty, merciful God, who loves us beyond our imagination. It is never Gods Will for us to be sick. He wants nothing but the absolute best for us!

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” {Jeremiah 29:11}

 Please continue to pray and thank God for what he has done for Pauls healing and what he continues to do in his recovery. Please also pray for the perfect rehab to take Paul, and have him be successful wherever he goes.

Thank you and God Bless!

Hi Everyone! It has been a little while since my last update, but Paul continues to progress greatly in his recovery.

Paul is still at Washington Hospital and has been incredibly successful on the trach collar. It is amazing the progression he has made with his breathing! We praise God for continuing to strengthen and heal Paul. In addition to doing great with his breathing, Paul works with an outstanding physical therapy team.

As we come into our 9th month since Paul's accident, it is easy to get worn down, and become impatient, but God wants us to know that He is always with us and to remind Him of His promises instead of the problem. "God Promises to give us back our health and heal our wounds." (Jeremiah 30:17) God's plan will be good and of hope. (Jeremiah 29:11). "God is not a man, he can not lie or change His mind"(Numbers 23:19). What we think is a long time, is just a second for God. This is for God's glory, and throughout this entire journey, we have met countless people and shared our story praising God for his goodness and healing for Paul. We know He will completely and totally heal him! When Jesus died on the cross for our sins, He also gave us complete physical healing! Which means the deed is already done, and it IS God's Will for Paul to live a long life with complete healing and prosperity. We declare that we will see God's will and Promise for Paul manifest in his body. Nothing is too hard for God. "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible!"(Matthew 19:26). God's Word created the heavens and earth, therefore His Word is True, It's Alive, and He is forever faithful to it!

As you pray for Paul's complete and total healing, here are some specific prayers.

1. That Paul avoids fevers and future infections in his body.

2. Continues to show alertness & clarity in his mind. Paul has shown tremendous increased movement in his body, so we pray that he continues to gain strength and endurance to move forward.

3. That Paul gets the strength to cough on his own, and to get off trach collar.

Thank you Everybody and God Bless!

I can not believe how the weeks are flying by! It  has been one month since my last post but just to update Paul is breathing on his own  with minimum resting time on the vent. Today they are going to try the trach collar for him! This is a HUGE step, and if Paul can tolerate it he will soon be able to eat and talk on it!
If everyone could please pray that Paul has the ability to breath with the trach collar on comfortably, we would be so appreciative.

Although this process with Paul seems long, Paul has made tremendous progress, and continues to beat the odds everyday.
Paul’s energy has spread throughout Bridgepoint and we now have most of the medical staff rocking our paulstrong shirts and wristbands. They talk to Paul as if they have known him forever. It’s truly amazing to see the impact Paul has on everyone!
With it being Lent season, It brings us even closer to Jesus. It’s a season of growth and repentance. It is also a season of healing and miracles!  He invites us to humble ourselves before him, to acknowledge our sins, and remind us that Our Father’s mercy for us is everlasting. We are loved even when we make a huge mistake. We are forgiven even if we think our sins are too big. Even in the darkest valley God is on our side with His love and mercy.
God sacrificing His only son to die on the cross for our sins proves to us His love and desire for all of us to be healthy and whole! We trust God’s timing with Paul's recovery. He continuously shows us signs and blessings reminding that He is here with us, He hears us, and has the final word with everything!
Again, if everyone could please pray for Paul to breath successfully today on the trach collar.
Thank you and God Bless!

Hi Everyone!
I just wanted to give you an update on Paul.

Over this past month, Paul has now increased his time off the ventilator to 16 hours per day. Paul’s physical therapy team has been very aggressive with his treatments, however they are cutting back on some of his sessions, to allow him the extra energy needed for his breathing. With Paul doing both aggressive PT and weaning, his physical therapist compared both activities to “running a marathon with a bad cold” . Since this recent change, Paul has been able to sleep and breath longer!  Yesterday we had a meeting with Paul’s team of providers. Overall they are very encouraged and pleased with Paul’s progression. Although we would love to have Paul recover quickly, his doctor reassured us that he has progressed with zero setbacks, and will continue to progress.

As you pray for Paul’s complete and total healing, here are some specific prayers;

1. For any nerve damage to be restored and for him to breath successfully on his own for a complete 24 hours.

2. For Paul to continue his progression with alertness and a clear mind.

3. For Paul to continue with purposeful upper body movement.

As we continue to walk in faith throughout this journey, God often reminds us that a delay is not a denial. Every moment of every day He is working for the absolute best in us and for His purpose. It is easy to let your emotions control you when you are going through suffering, but praying and letting God take control can absolutely change everything! God did not promise this life to be easy. The struggle he puts in our lives we must embrace and not fear, because often times the conflicts we want to skip creates the ending we all love to see.

When we are weak, He is strong.

Thank you everyone and God Bless!

Happy 2019 everyone!

Since the last journal update, Paul continues to be successful with breathing for an extended periods of time during the day and at night. Praise be to God! Paul’s physical therapy team is also working with him 3-4 times a week. He is responsive to their commands and is purposely moving his body while they are standing him up, and sitting him at the edge of the bed while pedaling his feet. His therapists have commented how motivated they are because of their sense of Paul’s strong will power. It is such an inspiration and blessing to watch Paul recover each day. Without a doubt we are witnessing the works of God’s healing right before our eyes. When you look at Paul, you can see his incredible determination shining through him.

We recently met a woman named Kim, who is the best friend to a patient that is only a couple rooms down from Paul. As we shared our stories we learned that their accident and recovery were very similar. Kim is a truly beautiful person inside and out, and she has full confidence that The Lord is present and is fully healing both of them. God leads people to places, and situations that impact us for an eternity. I believe God brought our family and Kim together to share our faith and story, and to help remind us to never give up or throw away our confidence.

“But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will rewarded.” (2 Chronicles 15:7). God is bigger than any trial we have on this Earth, and He is able AND willing to heal you through His loving mercy and grace. God is a Way-Maker!

It has almost been 5 months since Paul’s accident, and we are still in awe of the tremendous outpour of support and love from our friends and the community. God continues to sustain us throughout this journey. I have learned that you can not put your circumstances and God next to each other. One must be in front of the other, and we are choosing to put God in front of our circumstances. The Lord is so faithful and nothing is a surprise to Him! We are putting our complete trust in God and His plan for Paul. We are declaring victory in healing this year for Paul in Jesus’ name! “We know that in everything God works for the good of those who love him”.(Romans 8:28) “

As you pray for Paul’s complete and full healing please pray specifically for;
1. Paul’s ability to breath on his own for a complete 24 hours.
2. For Paul to continue his progression with alertness and a clear mind.
3. For Paul to continue with purposeful upper body movement.

We believe 2019 will be a very faithful and healing year for our family!
Thank you for your continued prayers and thanksgiving for a complete and full healing of Paul Robert Overton.

Thank you and God Bless!

Merry Christmas everyone!

We hope everyone is having a great Christmas and A Happy Holiday! We wanted to express our gratitude with everyone who has supported us through this difficult time this season. Although Paul is not up with us celebrating this Holiday season. God has brought us together as a family in the beautiful city of Washington, DC, and we could not be anymore thankful for that! We know Jesus is here with us guarding our hearts and mind with his joyful presence. We would not be here without our Lord Savior, and we are so incredibly blessed for this day and His healing of Paul. We are witnessing God’s miraculous works through Paul, and we Glorify Him for that! Paul will too be celebrating all of the Holidays with us again soon!

We love you guys and God Bless!

Hi Everyone! It has been a while since I last updated, so here is a little update on Paul!

Paul is continuing his recovery at BridgePoint Rehab Hospital in Washington, DC. We have grown to love the entire staff, especially Paul's caring team. Their positivity and love for Paul shines through them, and we could not have picked a better facility for Paul's recovery.

Paul is waking up more and more everyday, and he is still progressing in his weaning. A few posts back I asked for specific prayers for his CO2 levels to lower while he breaths, and God has faithfully answered! Paul's CO2 levels could not be any more perfect, Thanks be to God! Right now they are trying to have Paul wean for 24 hours at level 0. The doctor has confirmed to us that his lungs are one of the strongest on his floor. We know Paul is absolutely capable of doing it, and we are confident God will inject him with the endurance and alertness that he needs!

As you pray for Paul's complete and total healing, here are some specific prayers;
1. That Paul's respiratory rate while weaning is permanently between 15-20.
2. Has complete full alertness to understand commands everyday, and to breath completely on his own.

We love you guys and keep praying!

Hi Everyone!

We wanted to express our gratitude to everybody who made the Turkey Trot, and Tailgate such a success! We have brought our community together for Paul, and we are so blessed to have such an enthusiastic, caring group of people to support #PaulStrong! The Turkey Trot was a great success, with 125 PaulStrong runners. We definitely made an impact there! Drew and I also want to thank everyone for the huge support and liking of our PRO Apparel. We love that you guys love it! We had such an overwhelming response to all of the apparel. We still have White T-shirts available, a few snapbacks, and black sweatshirts left. If you want anything please txt us or email us at paulprostrong@gmail.com
Again, we can not express how blessed we are and how blessed Paul is to have such amazing friends to want to come together, and help our family. We're so excited for Paul to see all of the love very soon.

Hi everyone!

Thank you for everyone making Paul's 30th birthday yesterday so special! The nursing staff also surprised him with balloons, cupcakes and card! We love the entire staff here at Bridge-point. Even though it has only been two weeks, Paul has already made such a positive impact on the medical staff caring for him. As always, we love seeing Paul's friends come visit, and we know he loves hearing your voices!  From early morning to late afternoon, Paul is extremely active with therapy, and is taken off the ventilator twice a day. He is right on track, and doing incredibly well. However, by the evening he is wiped out and sleeps through the night.
Please continue your prayers for a full and complete healing of Paul!

Thank you and God Bless!

Paul has been continuously showing improvements everyday. Right now Paul is slowly showing more movement in his face and toes. We are currently praying and waiting for Paul to become stable enough to get an operation on his neck. Paul's amputation on his right arm went beautifully and we are praying that that will be the worst of Paul's injuries.

Please keep praying for Paul's recovery and strength. We will give you another update later in the week. Visiting hours are from 12:00-6:30, then 8:00-10:00.

Thank you, and God Bless!

Paul’s Story

Site created on August 28, 2018

Dear Family and Friends,

On August 16th, our beloved, Paul Overton was in a horrific motorcycle accident learning how to ride. With traumatic injuries to the arm, neck, and brain, we were told by doctors that Paul had little chance of making it. Without giving up hope Paul was sent to University of Maryland Shock Trauma where he is currently fighting for his life.

Paul is the most selfless, caring, most courageous person we know. Paul  truly has impacted every single person he has ever met. We sincerely believe Paul would not be here without the hope and prayers from everyone.  As we have been repeatedly saying this is the marathon Paul has truly been preparing for. If anybody could beat this, it's Paul. Everyday Paul has shown us signs that he is here listening, and in no way giving up. We believe in the Power of Prayer, and we know God is healing him right now.

We are starting this page for Paul for updates regarding his conditions, visiting hours, fundraisers, and anything relating to him. Paul is strong and will continue to fight and finish this marathon for life.  We are continuing to thank God everyday for healing our amazing Paul. He is truly already a miracle. We are all #paulstrong and #prostrong for life. Thank you to everyone that has shown love and support, and please continue to pray for Paul's full healing. We know he'll be out of there soon!

Much Love,
The Overton's
