Journal entry by Kelly Kvale —
Paul is officially enrolled in hospice. His nurse, Nate has been here for a few visits and he is great. I learned how to drain the fluid from Paul's abdomen. We have drained 3 liters twice. We are working closely with Nate to balance pain medication to control his pain vs too much that makes Paul very sleepy. It has been a challenge with lots of emotions. Hospice has provided a walker which Paul has been using quite a bit. Donica's mom Pat made him a very nice walker bag with 3 slots that holds his water, phone and anything else he might want to take with him. He has been going to sit on the deck quite often with the good weather we have had. We watched the Twins game on the deck and grilled hot dogs with Konnie and my mom. We also have a hospice social worker, Amy Jo who is also great. She asks the tough questions which we have talked about a little but will continue to do. We are hoping to go visit Paul's brother John and see his new house this weekend if Paul is feeling up to it. Just a day trip but will be nice to get out of Dodge.
