Paul’s Story

Paul came down with a cold on April 12. I believe this is the first cold he has had since his kidney transplant in March 2018. He could not get over this cold and over the next two weeks his health continued to decline rather rapidly. On Sunday, April 24 he decided it was time for him to go to the ER. We drove down to Saint Mary’s in Rochester on Monday, April 25.

Blood tests were done and the initial diagnosis was seeing blasts in his cells which means leukemia was present. After more testing and a bone biopsy it was determined that Paul has acute myeloid leukemia (AML).  Of all the leukemia‘s this one is the most evil. Paul is now at Methodist Hospital in Rochester and he will remain here for at least another week. They are hoping to start chemotherapy on him Monday, May 2. As of right now, his kidney is unstable and they do need to stabilize it before  he can begin chemo. He will have chemo for five days here in the hospital and then we are hoping he will be able to come home for three weeks of oral chemo before a second potential round of chemo.

We are totally embracing each and every day we have and appreciate all positive thoughts and energies that are sent Paul’s way.
