Although some of the details are foggy after so many years, I will share a memory of Patti that goes back to when she and Ed were first dating.

At the time, Ed was a veterinarian in Spooner, WI, working with small and large animals. As I remember it, I had spent the day with Patti, and sometime that day, she and Ed made plans to meet for dinner at a restaurant near my cabin. As luck would have it, before they could even get situated at the restaurant, Ed received an emergency call on his pager regarding a sick cow on a farm near Shell Lake. Ed hated to miss dinner (and time with Patti) but duty called! Perhaps on a whim, Ed told Patti she could always go with him on the call. -- It’s no surprise that she took him up on it!

I still can see the two of them in the parking lot of McKenzie Landing, Ed helping Patti get into a work coverall so her clothes wouldn’t be ruined. Patti was all smiles, laughing and ready to accompany (and probably assist!) on the call. I think Ed knew then that Patti was a special person, up to any challenge, and ready for any adventure!
