Patti’s Story

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Patti was diagnosed with a "mass in the brain" in March of this year, 2018.  Since then, more and more tumors have been found in different parts of her brain.  Not a good sign!  So, she has progressed from taking steroids to shrink the one tumor to gamma knife radiation, to now, soon, starting chemo therapy being administered directly to the brain.  Part of the side effects from the steroids have been an extreme exhaustion, so Patti has decided that having a Caring Bridge site might be the best and most efficient way to keep loving friends and family informed -- and put her limited energy to good use.  She thanks you in advance for all your love and support!

Journal entry by Patti Henry

Jeff again:
The Adventure took a scary turn on Sunday morning. Patti woke up early with nausea and vomiting and a low grade fever. We had an appointment at MDA for a blood test and injection later in the day and just came in early. We got here shortly after 7:00 and they saw us quickly. Patti’s fever got worse and at one point exceeded 103. The blood tests and a nasal swab showed she had a coronavirus and E. coli bacterial infection in her blood. They seemed generally calm about those alarming sounding revelations. Evidently we commonly have E. coli in our gut but it’s migrated to Patti’s bloodstream since her white blood count is essentially zero (all an intentional and necessary part of this process), and they immediately put her in the ER and then admitted her to the hospital for a couple (few?) days. Her fever is under control, and the nausea is mostly, but she still feels lousy and has no energy and her immune system has yet to rebound, so here we sit.

We remain grateful for the outpouring of love and support from friends and family.
