Patricia (Pat)’s Story

Site created on January 17, 2019

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place.

She spent 18 grueling, emotional days in Lincoln Medical Center, fighting a bad staph infection in her blood. We almost lost her. She fought and stayed with us thankfully, and is now undergoing rehabilitation to get her strength to come home.

We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Journal entry by Dwayne Hagler

Rough night on 3rd shift last night..  She had to go to the rest room and when they didn't come she made Dad assist.  We're not supposed to help because of therapy and them monitor what she can and can't do.  She was supposed to call if they didn't show but didn't. By the time that the CNA arrived she was on the side of the bed already.  PT forgot to lock the bed and when the CNA went to help, Mom fell out of the bed because the bed slid out from under her.  She's ok and we're not upset with the hospital as Mom really should have called rather than being on the side of the bed when they arrived.  PT should have also locked the bed. Just a number of factors.  She is still in a top notch facility and this was a fluke.

After a rough night, she had PT and was able to put 45% of her weight on her legs.😀   PT said that was really good.  She looked so exhausted when I arrived tonight.  I told her I was proud of her for the effort she was making and reassured her they were confident she'd walk in 5 days.

I had my friends with me this go, plus she already had Lindsey Sharon, Dad, and Leslie there.  Rocking out visitation!   She was very lethargic and I felt the pain when she'd stare over at me.  I turned my head to tear up a few times.

They brought paperwork to measure Sharon's house to accommodate for any ramps etc. which made us curious of what the outcome may be.  We are going to chat in detail tomorrow with the doctor to see what the final outcome may be.   We're praying as she has an estimated discharge of 2/1/19.  We're hoping that is good news!   Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers as this is hard on her and she's overcome things other would never be able to.  We're confident she's got this and trying to build hers up!
