Pat’s Story

Site created on July 2, 2020

Thank you so much for visiting this site, which has been set up in honor of our sweet Mom, Pat Mayer. While our hearts ache and we miss her beautiful and joyful spirit, we think a way we can celebrate her is to share her stories here, together.

Mom frequently said she just wanted to make more memories: Memories with her loved family and friends was what was most important to her. Gratefully, our hearts are full of them. But memories are best shared: Please use this site to share your stories, moments, or something broader in spirit, as a message to her, us, or each other. You can also post photos, which would be lovely to see. We will add some of ours on this site for you all as well.

For years now, Mom has fought some really challenging battles. She endured so much, with strength and grace, to allow for more time - for more love, and especially for more memories. We send our love to you and are grateful you are all in Mom’s life - and ours. Mom passed peacefully in the early morning of Friday, July 10th. She was held, and loved, by us, for her final journey. We are grateful to the Marshfield Hospital to allow us to be together with her the entire time.

We can appreciate that it must be difficult for you not to be able to celebrate Mom’s life with the usual kinds of events that take place under normal conditions. It is certainly difficult for us. We thank you for respecting that our first need, in addition to sending Mom on her final journey in a loving manner, is to help keep everybody safe due to the current re-escalating pandemic. It would break Mom's heart for somebody to get sick because they came to celebrate her.

In lieu of a traditional wake and funeral, we ask that you celebrate her memory here. We will update this space to let you know when you may proceed with your own visitation of her final resting place.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that you consider making a donation in her memory to one of the organizations  in the "Ways to Help" tab. We will be adding these in the following week.

The Seaside Seabird Sanctuary, formerly the Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary, is a wonderful, special place for our family. It is near the Florida house of our Grandma Annie, and we visited many times with Mom over the years. The sanctuary rescues, treats, and rehabilitates sick and injured wild birds. Please see the Ways To Help tab, which has a link to this organization’s donation page. If you like, you can share in Tributes that you have made a donation in her name there or to another organization that you think she would have appreciated.
