Paige’s Story

Site created on November 30, 2021

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

A few weeks ago, Paige was diagnosed with a noncancerous tumor, called an acoustic neuroma, or vestibular schwannoma. It is a tumor on the main nerve leading from the inner ear to the brain. This tumor affects the balance nerve, auditory nerve, and facial nerve. After a CT scan, an MRI, and meeting with the neurosurgeon, it was determined that Paige is going to need surgery based on the size and location.

Monday kicks off with some pre-op tests to ensure that Paige is healthy and ready for surgery. Tuesday morning is an MRI, and Wednesday morning is surgery. She will arrive at the hospital around 5:45 AM and surgery is scheduled to start around 7:30 AM. Her surgeon predicts it to last around 6 to 8 hours. This site is where we will update when surgery is finished, and as the healing journey begins. It is also a great place where you can leave encouragement or prayers as she recovers. She is so thankful to be surrounded by so much support, love, and generosity.  Over the next week, we ask that you continue to pray for Paige. She is aware that the auditory nerve and balance nerve on the left side will be impacted.  She is specifically asking for prayer that her facial nerve is preserved. She is also asking for prayer to feel God‘s peace as she prepares for surgery. Finally, for God‘s protection over the surgeon and wisdom as he removes the tumor.

We have had many people asking how they can help. If you click on the link above, Ways to Help, it will take you to options like meal train, go fund me, shipt, and other ways to help. We will add to that place if more ways to help come up.

Thank you!

Newest Update

Journal entry by Friends of Paige Renstrom

5 months ago was my surgery. As I reflect back I am so grateful and humbled by all of you. The prayers, the cards, the meals, and the donations have simply overwhelmed me. I think about my tribe of people everyday and thank God for each one of you. It is people like you that have kept me pushing forward in my healing. And healing is happening!  My eye closes almost all of the way which is a HUGE milestone!  I have some movement when I try to smile and I can almost drink a can of pop without half of it landing on my shirt. I completed my PT and OT for now and have moved on to a speech/healing specialist. She is pretty great and says I am making improvements each time I see her. She said she can’t wait to hear what the doctors say at my 6 month check up!  Until then, continued prayers for my nerves to jump start, the tumor they had to leave to have no change, and for my energy to continue to improve.  (I’m not sure how long my boss is going to be okay with those mid-day naps. LoL)  I know that this is a marathon and not a sprint so I continue to take it day by day. The best thing that has happened in the last 5 months is that I said, “I do!” to the man of my dreams. We decided we were not going to let my recovery push us to wait any longer so my parents brought us out to Vegas to visit them and stood by our sides as we started our life together. He has been my rock these last 5 months and getting to be his wife for the rest of my life is a true blessing.

Anyway, thank you again for all of your love and support! This truly has been a bumpy road, but God has been so good and faithful and has been by our side every step of the way!!

Next update will come after my 6 month MRI and follow up eye specialist!

Until then, God Bless!  Love and Hugs!
