Newest Update

Journal entry by Eric Boyum

So it's been quite some time since my last update. But all in all things have been progressing far better than anyone could have imagined.  Paige was able to be home and feeling well for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve.  She completed all radiation treatments back in November and had just continued Chemotherapy with a little more recovery time in between than we she first began.  Apparently this is completely normal as the drugs really beat up the bone marrow and it takes it longer to recover and allow her blood counts to return to a level where they can give her the next treatment.  She sometimes has to receive red blood cells and platelets even more often before.  not a huge deal other than a lengthy process.  One unit of red blood cells takes 3 hours to infuse!!

Paige has been able to attend school whenever she is well enough and has done an incredible job of keeping up with the work and projects.  She did miss some field trips but was able to attend the Hall of justice with another class so she didn't miss the experience while studying government and courts.  I had to pull some strings with our doctor to delay one treatment by a few days so she could take part in Mrs Mallaber's annual class play about the Solar System.  Paige did and incredible job as Pluto and we may be in store for a path in the dramatic arts!! (see pics/video below)

In late January, Paige had another round of scans (MRI, CT, PET)  They all came back with normal results.  Showing nothing lighting up as disease any longer!!!  We still need to stay the course and complete the originally planned number of chemotherapy treatments but are so incredibly grateful to hear this wonderful news.  Paige was admitted on 2/19 for a 5 day inpatient treatment which is going to be one of her last 3 treatments!!  Given her recent recovery times we may be done with all treatments by late March.

Continued thanks and appreciation for everyone's prayers, thoughts, meals and gifts.  It is so amazing to have so much support.  We all look forward to sharing the positive results and excitement of Paige's final treatments and the end of an incredibly long journey over the last 9 months!!
