Our miracle fighter turned 7 on Friday!
We received a message last week that Owen's case will be presented to the transplant board this week. We don't know which day but we are surrounding the week with positive thoughts and prayers towards the team who will be reviewing his case. Many of the team members including doctors and nurses we feel deeply connected to as they have been with us for 7 years. They will review his case, discuss with KU Health any possible donors and decide how to proceed. After the meeting, will get a message through the portal or a phone call letting us know what the team has decided. Is it time to list him on the deceased donor list? Is there a living donor who is ready and a match? Is there still time for Owen to wait for transplant?
We never had a birthday party for Owen. Many of his early years were spent in isolation growing his lungs and immune system, then covid hit and then my own anxiety took over planning a birthday party for him. I always thought if we planned for it, he would end up sick or the hospital and we couldn't handle the disappointment. That changed this year because of the dear Marena Mitchell. Owen goes to Bringing Therapy Home weekly for speech therapy sessions with her and a few months ago he told her that he had never had a birthday party and Marena went into action. She took care of all the details including planning the party, decorating, running the event, etc. Owen invited his class nad a few new neighbors and the party was wonderful! Marena is the type of person who teaches you how to take care of others, always putting others first and being selfless in each action. She loves deeply and cares for Owen. She has been next to our family in our highest highs and lowest lows. Owen's 7th Birthday Party was a highest high we will never forget. Thank you to everyone who took time on Saturday to celebrate Owen!
