Journal entry by Alexa Doyle —
A year ago today I took this little girl to the doctors, because her (amazing) aunt barb was concerned about her coloring. I see it now but back then I didn’t notice it or think anything of it. Going into the appointment I expected to leave with instructions to give her less milk and increase her iron intake.
Honestly, I left the appointment feeling pretty confident that she was just a pale kid and had been inside all winter which made her look even more pale.
Penny’s pediatrician who I consider one of Penny’s angels said “I think that she looks like a kid who has been inside all winter but you’re her mom and if you think something is off I’m going to listen to that. Let’s get some blood work done and see what comes up in that.”
The results of that blood work led to Penny’s diagnosis. Her doctor could have easily brushed off my concerns, resulting in delaying her diagnosis and causing Penny’s body to get weaker and weaker. I will be forever grateful for her truly listening to me.
