Journal entry by Bethany Daneshgar

Right after I published my last post on November 4, the doctor took Ollie back for his routine check up. His bloodwork was fine; ears, nose, throat, lungs, reflexes - all good. I was prepared to discuss the remaining 8 weeks of treatment and was hopeful that we would be able to write off 2021 with one final at home chemotherapy on December 30.

Then the big news was dropped - Ollie's treatment protocol was scheduled to end exactly two years after he was declared in remission. On December 17, 2019, Ollie was declared in remission based on bone marrow that extracted on December 9, 2019. Two years ago today.

Ollie's final spinal tap has been canceled. Today - December 9, 2021 - is exactly two years from when Ollie's bone marrow showed the last signs of leukemia. We haven't shared this information until today because we were terrified something would change and, to be honest, the past three weeks have not been kind to our family. But here we are!

Ollie will be receiving his last dose of chemotherapy today at 10:30am. Ped and I took off of work, and we kept Ollie and Phoenix out of school. We will be celebrating as a family with a trip to get our Christmas tree and some decorating. Today marks the end of a very long chapter.

This is not the end of the story however and I will continue to post as new chapters are written. Ollie still has to get his port removed (December 17) and there are stories from the last month that I would like to document. But today - today is big news.
