Dear Amelia, family, and friends, This news is so very sad, and I again find myself pondering what to say. As a fellow pancreatic cancer patient, I had no words when we received the news the cancer had returned. I still have few words but to honor Oliver's memory as the wonderful, dedicated, committed, intelligent and articulate person we all knew him to be, and to offer comfort to family and friends. For now, these words for you and your and family are sincere - Chris and I pray for strength to endure, and peace to accept.

Amelia, I see you often in town, but I'm not sure you know me as well as I knew Oliver. He was responsible for the server in the Cornell Library basement in 1998 which housed all the Johnson Art Museum images, and I was hired to work with him and take over adding new images. We got to know each other pretty well during those days, but also working in CIDC and going for lunch on a regular basis meant we shared opinions on so many subjects. Later in 2006-7 my office was next to his, and we would often chat on all kinds of subjects, especially your children, travel and his flying exploits when he had time. He was run off his feet keeping on top of his job in Olin then. You also might remember a day when you and he came over to my house to acquire a little kids home-made slide and some toys when your children were very little . All to say that while you might not remember me, Oliver was someone who I became a good friend with over the years. I saw him this last year walking up University Avenue after his Whipple procedure and he was in high spirits. That is the way I hope to remember him, always the optimist, always smart and engaging. Please accept my sincere condolences for yourself and for Cady and Peter (who I know from all the stories we heard). May Oliver's memory be a blessing to all of you. Oliver was a dear friend. Gale.

Amelia, I was so sorry to get a text from Dawn last night about Oliver's passing. That he went with dignity and grace - Wow, what an expression of his amazing facing of this passage. Wendy & David Salomon, Dawn and Scott Grover, Helenann Yunis, Keith and Magdalen, and Jens and I were gathered at Hopshire Farms brewery as it turns out when he passed. There were these old military planes flying over heading toward the airport, that we puzzled about. I will always think of him when I see a small plane flying over. Let me know if there is anything your "church buddies" can do for you and family. He is gone too soon. But living and dying with dignity and grace describes Oliver perfectly. Love to you and family!
