Goodbye Chemo!! I paid my dues - 53 hours of chemo every two weeks for 6 months - and it paid off! Yesterday I had my Tumor scan to determine whether I was now eligible for radiation, the next step in treatment toward a cure or at least remission. I met with a new Radiation Oncologist from MUSC which works in association with the VA Hospital. He was delighted with the results whereby the tumor had shrunk somewhat and in a better location for radiation which up until now was not possible. So now being off Chemo since May 28th, my side effects are gone, I am gaining weight and although still weak, I can now enjoy a fishing trip with my family in Islamorada to celebrate my 76th birthday which I wasn't positive I would see when I was diagnosed last fall. Upon our return, I will begin 6 weeks of daily radiation of 15 minutes each with minimal side effects. Tell you what, after 5FU Chemo's effects, I can handle anything! So far I am a survivor as you all said I would be so my intention is to not let you down. I will continue to thank Jesus who is with me daily and all of you family and friends, for your ongoing prayers and support. I didn't feel as good on June 3rd, my birthday, as I do today. My daughter Lori and the whole family, local and out of town, my children, grand-children, nieces and grand-nieces threw me a wonderful party at Lori's house. Check out the gallery for photos! I am truly blessed, no doubt!! I wanted to celebrate a few days later with my friends and family on one of the sandy islands for a cookout so we all met up and went by boat. Well, although the forecast was 20% chance of rain, we got hammered. By the time we got the grill lit the temperature dropped and cold rain was upon us. The grill was flooded out by the torrential downpour. The visibility went to zero so we had no cover and forced to be pelted until it was safe to leave by boat. See the gallery for those pictures as well. Anyway, we had a good time while it lasted! Another Big Ed, Old Salt birthday experience! I'll be back to ya'll letting you know how my radiation progresses. In the meantime, know that I love each and everyone of you!!
