Journal entry by Arek O'Connell

After 58 days in the NICU, Leighton is finally home!

It has been an unexpected, stressful journey these past 2 months, but we are so grateful for this sweet blessing to have FINALLY joined our family back home in MI. Leighton was discharged on Wednesday, August 25 and Arek and I drove back with her to MI in 2 days. It was a stressful drive home as we had many stops to make to get her out of the carseat, feedings, etc., but she was such a trooper! We thankfully made it home safely and were finally reunited with our Kaia. :)

Many thanks to all the wonderful nurses and doctors at AdventHealth Orlando for treating our family with the utmost care, the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) for being a safe place to stay so close to the hospital, and the countless families who have helped support our family during this challenging time. We are so thankful for each and everyone of you and couldn't have gone through this without you. THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts.

Above all, we thank our God for continually providing for us. He has been with us this entire journey and will continue to be as Leighton continues to grow.

As we've tried to settle into our new normal at home as a family of 4, pray that Kaia can adjust to being a big sister, trust that mommy and daddy wont leave her for long periods of time again, and Leighton can continue to thrive as she grows.

Our support team has created a Meal Train for us, so if you'd like to bless our family with a meal, you can sign up here:

Thanks for your continued prayers and support,
Arek, Jamie, Kaia and Leighton
