Newest Update

Journal entry by kellie dirksen

Mom has been sleeping more and more and only has a couple hours a day where she is awake and interacting. We are told this is normal and she will continue to sleep more often. Her breathing has become a bit more labored from time to time.

When she is awake she likes to listen to us talk and we can still get a smile out of her here and there. We make sure that someone is always with her so she doesn't wake up to an empty room.  She enjoys visitors. I know it's not easy to see her in this condition but know that she appreciates your presence. You don't have to talk, just sit with her for a bit if you'd like.  I read her a few chapters of a Western that I pulled out of the bookshelf today. I'm pretty sure I bored her back to sleep. Ronda keeps her up to date on the Alaskan wilderness reality shows and Dan likes to snooze in the chair next to her. I think his snoring soothes her a little. Babes continues to keep close to her side and sneaks a nap on her lap anytime she can. Mom is still able to reach out and pet her a little.

I realized today that there are many people reading my updates who don't know what the meaning of Hospice Care is : "Hospice care is a type of health care that focuses on the palliation of a terminally ill patient's pain and symptoms and attending to their emotional and spiritual needs at the end of  their life."  - This is unfortunately where we are at with the bullshit hand that life continues to deal us.

We have and will continue to thank you all. Thank you for the, food, phone calls, prayers, positive thoughts, cards, texts, flowers, visits, emotional support, booze, hugs, and most of all, your love. We know this isn't easy for you either. ❤️
