This past Tuesday, September 10, Nolan woke up with a headache and feeling sick to his stomach. Thinking not feeling good had something to do with getting hit in the head the night before by a soccer ball, John and Alicia decided to take him to the doctor to get checked out. Their world was rocked at the discovery that Nolan had a brain tumor in the left side of his brain, about 4 cm in size. Wasting no time at all, Nolan was taken by ambulance to American Family Children's Hospital in Madison for further workup. An MRI that same day was able to confirm our hope that the tumor was localized to Nolan's brain only, with no spread to his spine, although gave no indication whether malignancy would be an issue.
Up until this point, Nolan has been receiving IV fluids and steroids in the hopes that swelling in his brain will decrease enough to make surgery a success. As we sit here writing this from the waiting room, our sweet Nolan is being operated on by, as we are told, the best pediatric neurosurgeon in the nation.
We have all been so incredibly overwhelmed by the shocking amount of prayer, love and support from people, literally, all over the world.
