Nickie’s Story

Site created on July 7, 2021

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragment. Thank you for visiting.
Friends and family, I thought last year was crazy! Well, this year turned out to be even crazier. I was recently diagnosed with clear cell renal cell carcinoma that has metastasized to my lungs. I am currently working on choosing a treatment plan with a team of doctors at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance.

I set up this site to share my journey with you and keep you posted with any updates.  I will be honest, sincere, funny and silly in my posts as I prefer to deal with challenging times with humor and smart ass comments! ;- With that said, I believe in the power of prayer and staying positive.  I never thought I would be faced with this journey but thankfully It's not one I have to face  alone.  I appreciate the community of people that love, care and support me. Any positive comments, love,  and prayers are appreciated! Much love!

Newest Update

Journal entry by Christie Laverman

Nickie asked me to give everyone a quick update because I know so many people have been waiting for the the results of her scans.  The scans show that the cancer is shrinking, even the large mass on her kidney that started it all. Great news!!

Unfortunately, she has been having a really difficult time breathing  the past few days and the paramedics were called.  EMT's didn't seem to think there was fluid in her lungs because they couldn't hear it, but breathing treatments did nothing and her oxygen levels were dropping. Thankfully, she was taken to the ER yesterday because tests showed that both of her lungs were full of fluid (leakage from the cancer).  She was admitted to the hospital  and one lung was drained yesterday. She is already feeling so much better and is already starting to get her appetite back too.  The other lung will be drained tomorrow, so we are hopeful that she will feel even better and can go home soon.  Please continue to keep her and her family in your prayers.  Also, well wishes, texts and messages are greatly appreciated. She may not be able to respond to each one, but all the LOVE from you helps. 😍🥰
