Nick’s Story

Site created on August 4, 2018

Thank you for visiting our CaringBridge website for Nick Clifford.   Nick injured his cervical spine during a fall at home on July 22, 2018.  He is being treated at Barnes-Jewish Hospital by Dr. Neill Wright, a neurosurgeon who specializes in cervical spine injuries.  Nick’s injury did not result in any paralysis, but it has impaired his motor skills in his arms and legs.   He will need extensive rehabilitation in the coming months, but we are all praying for his full recovery.  We are using this site to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your prayers, support, and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Journal entry by Nicholas Clifford

We are happy to report that Nick has finally left the hospital and has been transferred to The Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis (TRISTL).  This took longer to happen because of some difficulties in getting a fluctuating blood pressure issue under control, which kept Nick in the hospital longer than we originally anticipated.  Now the doctors are confident that his blood pressure is well regulated, so he’s ready to take on his occupational therapy and physical therapy in earnest at TRISTL, starting tomorrow.

TRISTL is the best rehab hospital in the area and we are sure he will receive the best care.  We do not know how long Nick will be at TRISTL, although we are expecting it to be a month or so, followed by continued rehab on an outpatient basis.

We appreciate all of your best wishes, prayers, and continued support for Nick and his family.

P.S. Just uploaded a picture taken today of Nick, who no longer needs his neck brace (thank goodness).  Check it out in the Gallery tab.
