Nicholas’s Story

Site created on August 28, 2018

This site has been created to update family and friends on Nicks progress.  Please be patient with us as we have not done this before and will do the best we can.  Nick was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colorectal Cancer.  He started his journey in July after a colonoscopy found a mass that was later confirmed to be cancerous.  After his CT Scan, MRI, Biopsy and PET Scan the doctors have confirmed that this cancer has spread to his Liver, Lymph System and Lungs.  This cancer will need a miracle to be cured and massive treatment including Chemo-therapy and Radiation to be treated.  We drove to the Mayo Clinic today to meet with Dr. Kim to discuss the treatment plans that his doctor here at MN Oncology suggested.  Dr. Kim confirmed that Chemo is the best route for now.  With Nick being just 26 years old this has been a shocking diagnosis.  He will need your help, prayers and support.  Nick will begin his treatment in the next 10 days.  This will be an arduous two month process after which time the doctors will evaluate his progress and recommend further treatment.   We will send journal updates to keep you all as up to date as possible.  Please use this site to send your thoughts along to Nick as he will be reading them!!

Newest Update

Journal entry by Linda McDonough

Nicks surgery was almost one week ago.  The reversal went very well.  Nick left the hospital on Sat evening and has been home recovering nicely.  He has been very sore and it has been a little slower recovery process than he thought but he is so very grateful for the ostomy bag no longer being on his body.  He is healing and making progress every day.

He will go back in a few weeks for his post op check up and his blood work testing will continue for a year or so.  He is hoping to get back to school by the end of this week.

He is a remarkable person and we have been so very blessed to be a part of his difficult journey this past year.  He has continually shown us how to be tough, strong and grateful.  His blessing do not go un-noticed.  We have been telling him for sometime that he is marked for great things (no pressure).

Thank you all for your support and prayers during this difficult year.  I have no great words of wisdom except that God is good and we all must continue to care for and love one another.

We will keep you posted on Nicks progress.  Look for him to change the WORLD!! (no pressure!!!)
