Nathan has Aplastic Anemia. This page is to keep family and friends upto date on his journey. Thank you for your prayers !
We thought he was just anemic with nose bleeds, bruising. Not until my sister Melissa noticed how pale he was. We didn't notice so much until it was pointed out to us. I brought him to the doctors for a well exam hoping to get a prescription for iron. He wanted blood tests done. I got the call firday July 27, 2012 to get him to the hospital right now. he was low on all his blood counts and platelets. Hospital say for 6 days. 2 blood Transfusion and a Bone Marrow Aspiration, many blood tests to see about viruses. Nathan has been diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia. He is a strong little boy and a fighter. He knows he is ok because he has Jesus in his heart. As of Dec.2012 with just Blood and Platelet Transfusions and weekly doctors appointments his Bone Marrow has improved. It was at 20% cellularity and is currently 40-50% cellularity. He also has some PNH cells showing in his blood. Although he has no symptoms of it. We are very Thankful. Though he is still sick and unable to do all the everyday things kids do he is a true fighter. I can do all things through Christ which Strehgthenenth me. Phillippians 4:13 Aplastic anemia (
http://www.aamds.org/glossary/terms#aplastic_anemia) is a disease of the bone marrow (
http://www.aamds.org/glossary/terms#bone_marrow). It happens when the bone marrow stops making enough red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets for the body. Any blood cells the marrow does make are normal, but there are not enough of them. Aplastic anemia can be moderate, severe or very severe. People with severe or very severe aplastic anemia are at risk for life-threatening infections or bleeding. Although aplastic anemia can appear at any age, in any race or gender, it is diagnosed more often in children and young adults. It is also more likely to strike Asian-Americans. Each year, between 600 and 900 people in the U.S. learn that they have aplastic anemia.
