Nathan’s Story

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

We are starting this page to help communicate the care and condition of our son, brother, father, cousin, uncle, co-worker, friend and husband Nate Denryter.  Nate returned from his deployment in Afghanistan with the Air National Guard the end of July 2019.  After enjoying the rest of his summer, Nate began to experience some abdominal pain that was consistent with gall bladder issues.  After extensive testing with his primary care physician, Nate was diagnosed with Stage 4, metastatic Cholangiocarcinoma on September 26, 2019.

Upon diagnosis, Nate was referred to U of M where he underwent 6 rounds of chemotherapy.  In December 2019 after chemo rounds were complete, Nate had a scan that revealed that the cancer did not respond to the chemo regiment he was initially provided.  Alternative Chemo was offered but had a high rate of painful side effects with little perceived benefit.  At this point, Nate was still feeling pretty well and decided to take the opportunity to try a natropathic approach that required following a strict diet and regiment of natural supplements.  Another scan was done in the middle of February to determine cancer progression and once again, the cancer had not responded and continues to spread.  Nearing the end of February, Nate started to experience increased pain that was mostly due to build up of abdominal fluid.  To resolve some of the pain, fluid has been removed four times.  Today Nate went to a new Natropathic doctor to try and develop a new plan and to determine the best way to resolve pain and offer a different perspective on how to treat the cancer.   The recommendation was to add traditional treatment (i.e. chemo, radiation, etc.) along with natural supplements and remedies.  More to come on details for this approach in future posts. Once we have new updates we will share everything we know so that you can specifically pray for his continued care and comfort.

Throughout this journey Nate has continue to find comfort in his relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.  Nate is secure in knowing that the Lord has a plan and is comfortable in the will he has carried out for his life.  We ask that you join us in praying for Nate, Tracy, Bryce and Bailey as they travel this path.
