Nate’s Story

Site created on October 8, 2019

Hello,

Family, Friends, Loved Ones & all that have been following our 2019…

I’m starting this page to keep everyone informed about Nate’s progress and treatments as we battle this disease that he has been struggling with since June.

But before I begin, I want to say thank you. Our family is blessed to be surrounded by so many supportive people in our lives.  From our parents, to our siblings, our friends, neighbors, relatives and so many more- this journey wouldn’t be possible without you all.  Furthermore, we have so many amazing medical teams working with us from Avera in Sioux Falls to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester and we are confident we have finally found a road to treatment, which will put Nate in remission.

Keep praying, keep reminding us that it’s ok to ask for help, donate if you’re able to and please continue to love our Children.  Our goal has been and will continue to be, to try to disrupt their lives as little as possible.  It is so very hard for Audrina & Maizen to understand what has been happening to their father, and we ask you to not talk about this with them, because we want to keep it as simple as possible for them.

Lastly, we THANK YOU for everything that you have all done since June and we know with your love and support we will beat this TOGETHER.

Love,

  Nate & Jillian

Newest Update

Journal entry by Nate Vortherms

Good Morning to all,

Sorry it’s been a while since updating everyone on here, can you believe it’s been 42 days post transplant guys?!

So far everything to date is going very well. Nate has had some minor bumps in the road with GVHD (graft vs host disease) which means some form of rejection of his new cells. Thankfully, we have been able to keep it controlled through higher doses of steroids. He just can’t seem to shake not having to be on them, which is crappy, but he’s here and winning each and every day so we will take it!

With the crazy virus stuff we have going on, we’re being extra careful. Mayo, is a whole different world now and everyday here looks like a “Sunday”. Which means, the hospital is totally empty.

most of Nates appointments are now through Video at home and his infusions are the same. We are “extra isolated”.

Thank you all for your continued love and support, I fee like a broken record at this point for saying that but it’s amazing to see all of you still praying for our family, still sending cards etc.. you continue to help pass his time away from everyone and our home, and we are beyond grateful.

We hope you all have a fantastic Friday, stay safe and thank you.

All Our Love

J&N
