Natasha’s Story

Site created on September 7, 2019

Hey friends. I created this page to help keep folks up to date with all the details of my cancer diagnosis and treatment. It's hard to keep track of who I have told what already, and treatment hasn't even started. You should not expect sentimental or inspirational journal entries here. You can likely expect information, a twisted sense of humor, and misspelled words.

Devoted mother and wife Natasha Fisher, or Tasha to her friends and Tosh to family, age 40 of Durham, passed away March 13, 2022. Tasha was born in Wilkes County NC and was proud to be adopted and raised by the late Lyvone and Dean Woodring, as their loving and unconditional commitment is a testament to how incredible they were to her as parents.

Tasha attended college in the mountains of Jackson County, before making Durham NC the family’s home. Her working life was devoted to serving others in the fields of intellectual and developmental disabilities, and to healthcare education and technology. She was a passionate advocate for those she supported in every role she had.

Tasha enjoyed taking her family to special places in the mountains where she loved spending time growing up. In her words, “The most special name I’ve ever been called is ‘Mom.’ My greatest pride has been my children, and while I may not be here to tell them down the road, I already know the content of their character. I know their hearts. I know the incredible people they will become. I have cherished being their mother.”

Tasha is survived by her loving husband, Sam Fisher and her three wonderful children Emma Fisher, Addi Fisher and Noah Fisher.

Services will be held Friday, March 18, 2022 at Johnson Funeral Home, 615 W. Main Street, Elkin, NC. Visitation will start at noon and a memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm, officiated by Rev. Sam Fisher, Sr. Johnson Funeral Home is serving the Fisher family.

Tasha was cared for by a wonderful team at Duke University Hospitals. To help patients who cannot afford treatment, memorials may be made to “Pretty in Pink,” a foundation providing financial assistance to uninsured and under-insured breast cancer patients.
