Newest Update

Journal entry by Iva Youkilis

Dear All,

we haven't been updating this site as we were so busy organizing Nancy and Marvyn's life back at home.

Nancy came home over two months ago needing a hospital bed, wheelchair and help with pretty much every task you can imagine. This weekend we found her famous Zweibach on the kitchen counter and a list of various errands to do, including haircut and grocery shopping at Trader Joe's. Today, after a 4 mile walk, I was more tired than she was!

Physically, Nancy is doing great, except for little unsteadiness and some audio-visual difficulties. Cognitively, she has many moments of confusions and lots of perseveration which makes conversations uneasy at times; however, both Andy and I saw significant progress from three weeks ago. We can only hope that she will keep going in the right direction.

Marvyn has his routine down, one that he has practiced for years:-) He gets impatient often; makes sure we all know what he doesn't like; and enjoys solitude, sweets and scotch.

Nancy and Marvyn share their bed, meals and many loud conversations, just like they used to before her accident.

We are so grateful for Allie, Deborah and Katie, the wonderful caregivers, who bear witness with grace to the many meals and high volume conversations that take place when we are not in town visiting on the weekends. We are also grateful to all family and friends that bring lite and meaning to our lives.

Best to all,

Brad, Julie, Bob, Tina, Andy and Iva
