On Friday, December 20th, Nancy was heading north on Indiana Highway 31 to go see her daughter's family up in Elkhart, IN. At about 3:30 pm, a man driving diesel pickup truck tried to cross 31, eastbound on 110 just north of Rochester. He evidently didn't see Nancy's vehicle and pulled out right in front of her. Nancy impacted the passenger side of his engine compartment at high speed.

Nancy was rushed to the trauma center at Memorial Hospital in South Bend. There, they assessed her injuries with CT scans and x-rays and found that she luckily didn't have brain trauma but numerous broken bones, especially in her lower extremities.

To date, she has had two surgeries and expected to have at least one more.
