I just got out of "Civil War" and I couldn't help but think of Murry. We were J-school classmates briefly at USC, and Murry definitely had an aura about him that the profs also recognized. During an assignment in Miami in 1981, I visited the Herald to talk to a few editors about their coverage of the burgeoning homicides in the aftermath of the Mariel boatlift. Some of Murry's photos were on the wall, from El Salvador, where he and a colleague were under fire from a sniper in the capitol. Unable to do anything except his job, Murry kept shooting as his buddy was killed. The strength to do that . . . I ran into him a few years later when the Miami Serpentarium was shutting down, and he was bored with shooting critters, he wanted to get back into Central America and the action. Murry was an amazing talent -- so sorry to learn he's no longer with us. A most memorable character in this long quick journey of ours. R.I.P.
