Morgan’s Story

Site created on January 12, 2023

Hi friends and family. On Thursday, January 5, Morgan went to the ER after dealing with very intense flu symptoms for about four days. He was admitted to the hospital in Radford with severe pneumonia. They made the decision to put Morgan on a ventilator to allow his lungs time to rest, but once he was on the ventilator, they realized that he was much more sick than they thought. He was airlifted to Roanoke Memorial Hospital Thursday evening, where the diagnosis grew to septic shock and strep pneumonia. On Wednesday, January 11, Morgan was placed on ECMO as a final effort to preserve his life.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Holly Paulette

It's been so very long since I've posted on here--for great reason. Morgan is healing more and more, day by day. He'll head back to work part time this coming week, I'll go back to work, too--and we're just continuously full of gratitude that this is the place we're at. All by the grace of God.

I've been so grateful to write on this platform and share our family's story, but, for obvious reasons, I'm ready to bid adieu to CaringBridge. In truth, I haven't yet found the courage to go back and read posts from the last months. It's all very raw, and I'm still just beginning to process the trauma I personally went through. I have saved everything, and, as with all of the internet, I'm sure it'll live on forever 😂.

But--I also just have really loved writing again.

So! I started a Substack, which is 2023's version of a blog and I'm SO excited about it. Here's where I admit to not really understanding exactly how Substack works, because though I am 32 I operate as more of a 50/60-somethings when it comes to technology (no offense--you are my people). I'm sure there's a subscribe link somewhere on there...if not, please teach me how to subscribe (this feels like such a  professional plug for a writer, eh?).

I've written a quick intro post and plan to write more at some point soon--I'm hopeful that I'll find time monthly to publish a newsletter-type post with a mixture of deep and shallow things 😂. I'd love for you to follow or subscribe, if you want to! I don't typically spend too much time on social media (outside of the last few months), so subscribing through Substack will be the best way to get the posts.

And if not--which is TOTALLY fine! I am a big proponent of quieting your internet spaces!--thank you, thank you, thank you for following our story on CaringBridge, for praying for our family, and for loving us to this point. If I've seen you in person lately, you've heard me say that the goodness and kindness and love of God saved Morgan's life, but the steadfastness of you all also sustained me.

Onto a brighter end of 2023 than it began! ❤️
